What does a search engine pick up on?

Hi, I am opening a small b%26amp;b and need to establish a domain name and hosted website. When someone searches thru google or yahoo for b%26amp;b glenelg, does this search link directly to words in the domain name, or to details contained within the website? and yes I am computer illiterate!!

Google explains how their ranking works here:

What does a search engine pick up on?

There are many many things that Google and the other major search engines use to index and rank their pages. Keywords in the domain can help, but some of the most important factors include domain age (older domains tend to rank better due to authority-it can take new domains longer), relevant and fresh page content which utilizes the keywords that you want to rank for, other back end optimization techniques, and what is known as link popularity.

Link popularity is a measure that the search engines use. To try to make it sound as simple as possible...back linking and link popularity really can be viewed as a popularity contest.

The search engines view it as...if sites are linking to your site it must be good. When you see a site you like, you put a link to it. So the more interesting or %26quot;popular%26quot; your site, the more likely its going to be ranked. Now, not all links are judged the same. For example, a link from CNN.com is going to be viewed with more strength than an inbound links from new-small-local-blog.com.

The search engines take all of these factors and much much more into consideration and use algorithms to eventually rank the sites.

I wish you the best of luck with your new site. WIth time and effort you will have success...
